Curb instances of 'political vendetta': Sukhbir to Punjab CM Amarinder
Police should be directed to nip cases of political vendetta in the bud lest it lead to a serious law and order problem, Badal said.
Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday asked Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to direct the police to curb incidents of "political vendetta" with a heavy hand immediately.
Police should be directed to nip cases of political vendetta in the bud lest it lead to a serious law and order problem, Badal said.
In a statement here, former Deputy CM claimed that soon after the poll results were declared, two persons were killed and one was injured during a clash between truck unions owing allegiance to the SAD and the Congress in Baretta town of Mansa district.
He also referred to the murder of a senior Akali worker Gurbachan Singh Khalsa in Pherochichi village in Gurdaspur two days back.
Badal said it was unfortunate that the murder of the Akali worker took place despite the fact that he had complained to the district police about the threats he was receiving.
The SAD President said it was condemnable that the district police had "failed" to take action against the culprits till now and had not made much headway in the case.
"Strict instructions should be issued to the State police to nip such cases of political vendetta in the bud lest it lead to a serious law and order problem", Badal said.
The Akali leader said such cases would also hamper the State's development story.
"Capt Amarinder Singh has assured to focus on development as was done by us. Punjabis also expect the same. Any attempt to vitiate the atmosphere in the State by resorting to political vendetta will not be tolerated by Punjabis who want the new government to start working immediately to deliver on the promises made to the people," he added.
