Chengannur by-election: Sreedharan Pillai is BJP candidate

ALAPPUZHA: The BJP central election committee on Thursdayapproved the candidature of Mr P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, former BJP state president, for the Chengannur by-election. Mr Pillai,  being fielded as  NDA candidate,  will take on Mr D. Vijayakumar of the UDF and Mr  Saji Cherian of the  LDF in the three-cornered fight.  

Mr. Pillai had finished third in the 2016 Assembly elections  by garnering  42,000 votes. Hailing from Venmony in the district,  Mr. Pillai started his public life through Jan Sangh in 1966. He was BJP state president during 2003-2006. Currently, he  is a special invitee to the BJP national executive.
