AIADMK has no achievements to its credit: MK Stalin
Stalin while addressing voters at Mambakkam, urged them not to repeat the mistake committed in 2016 Assembly elections by voting the AIADMK to power.
Chennai: DMK president M. K. Stalin claimed that the AIADMK has no great achievements or development schemes to claim credit, whereas his DMK had built infrastructure in the State particularly in the city.
“As Mayor of Chennai I had built 10 bridges including the beautiful grade separator at Kathipara. The metro rail is running today because of the initiative of our Kalaignar (late DMK founder and former CM M. Karunanidhi) who sent me to Japan to fetch funds and I brought funds to facilitate the metro rail,” he said while campaigning for his party's Central Chennai candidate and former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran here on Monday evening.
The DMK, he asserted, has several things on the development front to boast but the ruling AIADMK has no achievements or development schemes to claim credit.
“I have come to you seeking votes for more development in your area. But with what face will the AIADMK ask for votes,” he asked. The DMK leader claimed that the AIADMK had numerous setbacks and failures such as farmers' woes, Sterlite issue and the Chennai-Salem green corridor.
Reiterating that the AIADMK government will collapse immediately after a new government under Congress is in place in Delhi after polls, Mr. Stalin while addressing voters at Mambakkam, urged them not to repeat the mistake committed in 2016 Assembly elections by voting the AIADMK to power.
Withdraw statement on Chennai-Salem green corridor or face action: DMK
The DMK has warned of initiating contempt proceedings against Union Minister Nitin Gadkari if he failed to withdraw his announcement on going ahead in implementing the Chennai-Salem green corridor, and said it violated the orders of the Madras high court.
Party’s organisation secretary R. S. Bharathi who also issued a legal notice to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers: Pon Radhakrishnan and Harsh Vardhan, besides Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanswami and PMK leader Dr. S. Ramadoss, demanded Nitin Gadkari to immediately withdraw his statement and to drop any such move which could be in violation of the orders of Madras High Court.
Citing the Madras High Court order dated April 8, he said the common order quashed the land acquisition proceedings to the Rs. 10,000 crore project.
On Sunday while addressing an election rally in Salem, Mr. Gadkari expressed confidence that the Chennai-Salem expressway project will be implemented after discussions with farmers opposing acquisition of their land for it. He said land acquisition process for which has been stayed by the Madras High Court recently, was important for development of the region.
