Chennai: Alleging that democracy has been “put to shame” in Tamil Nadu, PMK Chief Ministerial candidate Anbumani Ramadoss on Sunday asked the Election Commission to nullify the nominations of DMK and AIADMK candidates in all 234 constituencies and postpone the elections.

“While the whole world is aware of the money distribution, the Election Commission alone seems to turn a blind eye to it. It is sad to note that there have been no efforts taken by the State Election Commission in order to conduct free and fair polls this time,” he said in a statement.

Mr Anbumani alleged that, right from the Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni to the Constituency Election Officer, all are playing support to the AIADMK and DMK, he said no action has been taken on any of the complaints made by opposition party leaders and candidates.

“In Tamil Nadu until now Rs 102 crore has been confiscated on account of illegal transfer. But there is so much of unnoticed funds being transferred and distributed within constituencies which are yet to be accounted for. This will easily be over Rs 10, 000 crore,” he said.

At many constituencies, Mr Anbumani, claimed the PMK candidates have confiscated the money distributed by the DMK and AIADMK candidates and handed them over to the Election Commission Officer.

“Instead of filing a complaint and taking necessary action against the offenders (i.e. AIADMK and DMK candidates), a case has been filed against the PMK candidate who had complained,” he said and added that since there is huge money distribution across all the 234 assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, we request that the the elections be postponed in all the constituencies.
