Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala has asked veteran CPM leader V S Achuthanandan to reject the post of Administrative Reforms Commission chairman being offered by the party.  At a function here, Chennithala said Achuthanandan was a mass leader who had a special place in the hearts of the people and he should not succumb to the offer of ARC chairman. The opposition leader targeted the LDF government for bringing the legislation in a haste to accommodate Achuthanandan.

Chennithala had unleashed a scathing attack on the LDF government in Assembly on Friday when the government introduced the bill. The CPM move to accommodate Achuthanandan has also come under criticism from the UDF allies. Muslim League had taken a dig at CPM over accommodating Achuthanandan. While the services of the veteran leader were used across the state for campaigning, when it came to giving him a suitable position there seem to be utter confusion in the party.

The CPM had countered the charges saying that administrative reforms commission had gained significance in the present situation especially because of the tepid functioning of various departments. There is a need to have a re look at several outdated laws which are causing huge inconvenience to the public.
