Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC vice-president V. D. Satheeshan has defended former chief minister Oommen Chandy and Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala in connection with the allegations of nepotism levelled against them in a Facebook post.

The Left leaders had alleged that Mr Chennithala had appointed his brother K. Venugopal as the general manager of Kerala Feeds Ltd. Mr Satheeshan clarified that he is not Mr Chennithala’s brother and is not related to him.

Regarding Mr Oommen Chandy’s relative Kunju Illampilly being appointed as co-operation board chairman, Mr Satheeshan said that he was appointed on merit. He also claimed that Mr Kunju Illampilly was  working as a public servant for more than five decades in Kottayam and was also a state leader of INTUC. “It was the KPCC which nominated Kunju Illampilly as co-operation board chairman. The  Left leaders have raised baseless allegations against UDF leaders without checking the authenticity of the issue,”  said Mr Satheeshan.

Regarding the appointment of former health minister V. S. Sivakumar’s brother V. S. Jayakumar  as devaswom board secretary, Mr Satheeshan said that Mr  Jayakumar had 34 years of service and was in government service before  Mr Sivakumar became a Congress leader.

“The board secretary is  appointed during Sabarimala season and he had served in the same post even during former chief minister V. S. Achuthanandan’s tenure,” said Mr Satheeshan.

He also clarified on appointment of former minister Anoop Jacob’s wife Anila Mary Varghese as the head of the English department at Piravom college saying Lok Ayukta had given a clean chit to her appointment.
