The issue of voting rights to NRIs is now being examined by an 11-member panel of ministers.

KANNUR: Though the district implemented the green protocol in the Assembly elections, the green volunteer students were not allowed by the Election Commission to enter  the booths. The district administration had made elaborate arrangements with the help of the district Suchitwa Mission to implement the green protocol.

Under the protocol, the students had planned to  clean the polling booth and premises and hand them back to the owners in their original condition. District Collector P. Bala Kiran said that the Election Commission had directed on Sunday that the students were not supposed to enter the booths.  “However, the green protocol was  successfully implemented in all distribution and receiving centres,” he said.

For the first time, the Kudumashree took up the catering service to various polling booths in the district. All the election officials were provided with Kudumbashree food for a nominal price. The Kudumbashree also operated  food courts at 11 distribution and reception centres. At Kalloor New UP School booth in Mattannur, all political party workers distributed snacks and lunch for the voters.
