Yeddyurappa has disproved the belief of senior leaders by not taking them into confidence.
BENGALURU: A month after he was handed the reins of the state unit of BJP, former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa’s style of functioning—ignoring senior leaders and not holding discussions with them—has led to dissatisfaction ahead of elections to Rajya Sabha and the Legislative Council.
Though he had promised party workers that he would not take unilateral decisions on the day he took over as state chief, Mr Yeddyurappa has not convened a meeting of the core committee to finalize the names of candidates for these crucial polls or discuss the strategy.
“We accepted his leadership and 2018 elections will be fought under his leadership, but Mr. Yeddyurappa has not called any meeting so far. The core committee has not met after the departure of Mr Pralhad Joshi from the top post,” lamented a member of the core committee.
Senior leaders are under the impression that leadership in New Delhi would ensure that Mr. Yeddyurappa falls in line, and opt for collective leadership. But Mr. Yeddyurappa has disproved the belief of senior leaders by not taking them into confidence either during his drought tour or submitting a memorandum to Governor Vajubhai Vala on failure of the government to tackle drought, sources in the party told Deccan Chronicle.
Citing one instance, sources said the state unit had prepared a report on the drought situation to be submitted to the chief secretary before Mr Yeddyurappa embarked on the state tour.
On hearing about the move, Mr Yeddyurappa took a decision to hand over a detailed report to Mr Vala, a move which upset leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Jagadish Shettar, stayed away from the delegation.
In reshuffle of party spokespersons, the former CM took unilateral decision by appointing new spokesperson, but it was not brought into the notice of senior leaders, sources added.
