Hyderabad: Star campaigners are expected to change the mood of voters in favour of their candidates in elections unless there is a strong wind in favour of some other party.

This perception typically leads to a higher demand for the star campaigners from the candidates. The Karnataka Assembly election  had seen three star campaigners — Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the BJP, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for the Congress.

Mr Modi addressed public meetings in 21 places, while Mr Gandhi held rallies in 20 places. UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi addressed only one rally. According to political experts in the neighbouring state, the BJP own 12 seats from the places where Mr Modi held his meetings, while the Congress won nine seats where Mr Gandhi held his rallies.

However, the strike rate of Mrs Gandhi appears to be far higher as her party won five  seats in Bijapur, where she had conducted her public meeting. The BJP won one seat in the area.

Bijapur falls under the Mumbai Karnataka reg-ion, which is considered to be a stronghold of JD(S) but later it has become the stronghold of the BJP.
The meetings of Mr Modi and Mr Gandhi  however were held across the state.
