Kakinada MLA pushes old man; video goes viral
The old man came to the MLA and sought sanction of pension, saying his wife had died and he had no means of support
KAKINADA: A video that shows Kakinada Urban MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhara Reddy pushing away an old man during Gadapa Gadapaku programme at Mahalakshmipeta in 24th ward in the city has gone viral on social media.
Sources disclosed that Chandrasekhara Reddy had taken up the government-sponsored programme at Mahalakshmipeta on Tuesday night. An old man T. Satyanarayana came to him and sought sanction of pension, saying his wife had died and he had no means of support.
The MLA called the ward secretary and volunteer, and enquired about the issue. They said the date of birth on old man’s Aadhaar card shows he has not yet attained the age for pension. But Satyanarayana continued pleading with the MLA about arranging a pension for him. This is where Chandrasekhara Reddy got irritated. The video shows the MLA pushing the old man and saying no pension can be given to him.
Kakinada Municipal Corporation deputy mayor Meesala Uday Kumar told Deccan Chronicle later that all eligible persons are being given something or the other through the many welfare schemes. But the old man in this case had, without listening to reason, irritated Chandrasekhara Reddy.
Satyanarayana clarified to DC that he and his son are residing in a rented house. He used to do masonry work, but is unable to do anything now. He said he has a 35 square yards’ site. He wants sanction of a loan for construction of a house. He maintained that he did not know how to put forward his grievance. He requested officials to do justice to him.
Sources said the old man apologised to the MLA while the latter was participating in the Gadapa Gadapaku programme in another ward on Wednesday.
