Adilabad: BJP leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy sat on a hunger strike at his house on Wednesday in protest against the Master Plan released by the Nirmal Municipality. He alleged that the ruling BRS leaders are making crores from real estate ventures through changes in land use laws.

Outside, BJP cadres staged protests and rasta rokos in protest against Maheshwar Reddy’s house arrest and against the master plan.

Police put Maheshwar Reddy under house arrest to foil the call given by the BJP for a rasta roko on the NH. He swiftly resorted to a hunger strike.

He alleged that the master plan was poorly designed and affected the interests of the farmers. “It would forcefully take away their agricultural lands that are under the green zone. In the name of land acquisition, these lands are being sold to industrialists,” he alleged.

“There is a big scam in the implementation of the master plan and crores are being exchanged between ruling party leaders and industrialists. Officials converted the Sofinagar area that actually comes under the Industrial zone into a commercial residential zone. This raised the land value and benefited the lands owned by the ruling party leaders,” he said.

Maheshwar Reddy alleged that the ruling party leaders are purchasing the lands that were marked under Full Water Level at cheap rates and selling them to industrialists and business establishments for exorbitant prices.

Ravula Ramanth and some senior leaders participated in the hunger strike.
