Kozhikode: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called for the unity of all  forces in the country  that are opposed to  communalism and liberalisation. “The Congress is not an  alternative to the BJP.  The Congress had implemented anti-people policies leading to the rise to power of the saffron forces,” he said while  speaking at the anti-fascism seminar organised by Keluvettan Study Centre here on Saturday.

Mr  Pinarayi accused the Congress of  being soft on communalism for protecting its vote bank. “The Congress alliance with Samajvadi party in Uttar Pradesh  failed.  A grand alliance was floated in Bihar against the BJP,  but a  major section of JD (U) joined the BJP fold. All these show  that an alliance should be formed on the basis of policies only,” he said.

The Left will extend an olive branch to the secular parties. “But  the policy is important. Those who were part of  communal politics till yesterday should reveal  whether they are ready to disown such politics,” he maintained.
