All set for Congress presidential election polling today

Around 350 APCC delegates across the state have votes

VIJAYAWADA/ANANTAPUR: The APCC delegates from 26 districts were all set to head for Kurnool and cast their votes in the Congress presidential poll on Monday. Kurnool DCC office has made arrangements for the polling. Counting will be done on October 19 and the results declared the same day.

Delegates from Krishna, Guntur, NTR, Eluru, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Godavari, Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor etc would participate in the voting process in Kurnool. Party sources said some leaders were in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Padayatra and they would reach Kurnool on Sunday night.

Several delegates for the voting from other areas have arrived. The rest of Congress delegates will reach Kurnool by Monday morning to cast their votes.

Recently, Mallikarjuna Kharge contesting the presidential poll visited Andhra Ratna Bhavan, the AP Congress headquarters in Vijayawada along with senior leaders including KVP Ramachandra Rao and conducted a campaign, seeking support to Kharge from the delegates. According to party sources, the other presidential candidate Shashi Tharoor also contacted AP Congress leaders and sought their support for him.  

Around 350 APCC delegates across the state have votes. "We established a polling booth at Kurnool district Congress office and made all necessary arrangements for a free and fair polling," APCC president Dr.Sailajanath told DC.

Former chief minister Damodaram Sajeevaiah was elected as the AICC chief and worked between 1962-64 and again won the post in 1971 and served as AICC president for a year.
