Shifting capital from Amaravati impossible: Yanamala
Ramakrishnudu pointed out that the Andhra Pradesh High Court has given its verdict in favour of Amaravati farmers
KAKINADA: Former finance minister and Telugu Desam senior leader Yanamala Ramakrishnudu on Sunday asserted that constitutionally, it is impossible to shift the capital of Andhra Pradesh from Amaravati.
“As per law, it is also not possible to set up three capitals for Andhra Pradesh,” he maintained.
Addressing a round table meeting on “Amaravati is the Capital” in Kakinada on Sunday, Ramakrishnudu pointed out that the Andhra Pradesh High Court has given its verdict in favour of Amaravati farmers. He underlined that the state government cannot appeal against this order as the period has expired.
In this regard, the former finance minister pointed out that one of the YSRC MPs have proposed a private bill in parliament, seeking powers to the state government for forming three capitals. This itself makes it clear that the state government has no power to shift the capital from Amaravati or form three capitals, he underlined.
Ramakrishnudu said during the Telugu Desam regime, the then chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had consulted many experts from several countries on constructing the capital and attracting investments. This would have provided employment to youth and the state would also have developed financially.
However, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has destroyed all these plans. As a result, development of Amaravati has got halted.
Presiding over the round table meeting, JAC chairman Siva said Amaravati farmers have sacrificed their lands in the interests of developing Andhra Pradesh. “Amaravati must thus be the only capital of Andhra Pradesh,” he maintained.
Former home minister Nimmakayala China Rajappa, Rajamahendravaram Rural MLA Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdary, former MLAs Jyothula Nehru, Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao and Bandaru Satyananda Rao, and leaders of CPI, CPM and Jana Sena participated in the round table meeting.
