Madurai: Accusing opposition parties for politicizing Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit's review meeting with officials at Coimbatore, State Minister for Cooperation Sellur K Raju called it a "healthy thing".

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the new commercial complex of the Sri Meenakshi Amman temple at a cost of Rs 38 lakh at Alagankulam here on Thursday, Mr. Raju said that only through conducting such meetings, the governor would help Tamil Nadu in availing welfare schemes from the Central government.

Claiming that the State government was functioning efficiently, Raju said that all the welfare schemes being implemented by the Edappadi Palaniswami government was being subjected to scrutiny. Anybody who examined the welfare schemes would only appreciate the state government, he said, in defending the Governor's action.

On the opposition parties' criticism about the Governor's infringement on the rights of the state, he said that the ruling AIADMK would never give up its support for state autonomy. "If the Central government brings welfare schemes, we will welcome it, and will oppose it if is against the interest of our state."

Earlier Madurai MP R Gopalakrishnan and N. Natarajan, joint commissioner of Meenakshi Amman temple participated in the event. The complex has eight shops and the temple authority would rent the building for commercial purpose. They would collect '5 lakh from every shop as rent annually.
