HYDERABAD: BRS working president and minister K.T. Rama Rao on Friday said the Congress was synonymous with instability and did nothing for Telangana during the 11 terms that formed the government. He also said the Congress cheated the people every time they came to power, and they should recall how the state was when the Congress was in power.

“There were water and power shortages; minorities were left to wallow in poverty. It was Congress that killed 400 people in communal riots that its leaders engineered just so they could change their Chief Minister,” he  alleged. “If the Congress comes to power, all we will see is its leaders playing ‘Kaun Banega Mukhyamantri’ (Who will become the chief minister) game at the cost of people’s welfare and development of the state.”

Rama Rao addressed people during his road shows organised as part of his election campaign in Hyderabad on Friday.

In Jubilee Hills, the minister attacked Congress candidate and former India cricket captain Md Azharuddin saying “Azhar was never in public life and has no knowledge of the constituency. When he comes for votes, go play cricket with him, but vote for BRS candidate Maganti Gopinath,” he said.

Earlier in the day, addressing a session organised by Business Network International, Rama Rao appealed to people to compare the performance of the BRS government with that of the Congress.

“Our focus would be on developing social infrastructure, sporting infrastructure, education and skilling, healthcare, and nurturing entrepreneurship,” Rama Rao said.

He said Telangana has a lot of untapped tourism potential due to the new reservoirs. He appealed to young entrepreneurs to explore new avenues like tourism in the religious, medical, spiritual, health, sports and wilderness sectors.

In Khairatabad, Rama Rao said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao was a friend of the Muslims and if peace and harmony have to reign in the city, BRS should come back to power.

“I am making this promise from Khairatabad Bada Ganesh location, as long as the BRS is there, we will be secular. We are not afraid of anyone, whether Modi or Rahul from Delhi, they can try what they want,” he said.

Addressing meetings in Adilabad district in the morning, Rama Rao appealed to Muslims not to get divided and vote for the BRS since it was the only party which can fight the BJP. He said people should be conscious as communal parties will intensify their campaign in the coming 10 days to divide the people.
