Mumbai: Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said that Rahul Gandhi is God’s gift to the BJP. Addressing a state BJP executive meeting in Nagpur, Mr. Fadnavis said that because of Mr. Gandhi, common people in the country are sure that only Narendra Modi can bring development to the country.

Urging the party workers not to be complacent after BJP’s victory in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan assembly elections, Mr. Fadnavis said that every election must be taken seriously. “Many people were saying that the Assembly elections in five states in 2023 was a run-up to Lok Sabha polls in 2024. But I was confident that irrespective of what happens in these five states, people will give mandate to Mr Modi in Lok Sabha polls. In 2018, we lost in three states (MP, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan). .But when it came to the Lok Sabha, people gave mandate to Mr. Modi,” he said.

The BJP leader further said that common people believe that only Mr. Modi can bring development in the country and transform their lives. Comparing Mr Gandhi with Mr. Modi, he said that the Congress leader gave seven guarantees in all state elections, but the people rejected them as only one guarantee — “Modi’s guarantee” — was enough for them.

“We are fortunate to have a leader who gets such affection from common people. They feel that he governs for them. They look at Mr Modi as a member of their family. There is no leader in the history of independent India to have such a credibility among common people,” Mr. Fadnavis said.

Ridiculing Mr.Gandhi, the BJP leader said, “Rahul Gandhi is God’s gift for us. We are fortunate to have a leader of opposition party like him. The Congress’s today’s situation is because they (Congress leaders) thought only about themselves. No importance was given to the party and its organisation. Consequently, leaders became big and the party became small. Now it is difficult to revive the Congress.”

Mr. Fadnavis cautioned party workers not to be complacent and give their 100 per cent time and energy to the party for the next nine-10 months. He also asserted that the BJP will contest Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Maharashtra in alliance with Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar-led NCP. “You do not worry about which party will get how many seats. Remember that whoever wins from Maha Yuti in Maharashtra will support Mr. Modi. Therefore, BJP workers must give their 100 per cent to win all 48 Lok Sabha seats,” he said.
