Tamil Nadu Governor on a tour to Velankanni, Nagoor dargah

Governor is on a two-day visit to conduct review meeting of various projects and participate in cultural programmes, Rajbhavan sources said.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Saturday took a two-day visit to north Tamil Nadu and he will be visiting Chidambaram, parts of Cuddalore and Nagapattinam. 

Banwarilal who offered worship at Lord Amirthakadesawara Swamy temple at Thirukkadaiyur also attended a Natyanjali event in Chidambaram and is scheduled to visit the Shrine Basilica at Vailankanni, the popular Christian pilgrim centre in south India and the renowned Nagoor dargah, another popular pilgrim centre of Muslims. 

The Governor is on a two-day visit to conduct review meeting of various projects and participate in cultural programmes, Rajbhavan sources said. 

The governor also heard public grievances and entertained representatives from local NGOs on issues pertaining to development of Chidambaram and Cuddalore. And a similar public grievance meeting is scheduled at Nagapattinam on Sunday. 

Review on Swachh Bharat schemes in Nagapattinam and inspection on solid waste management at Kilvelur is also scheduled along with civic officials, sources said. The governor who left on train will return to Chennai by train on Monday. 

Addressing the Natyanajali event, Banwarililal said he was excited to be present at the renowned Natyanjali event and congratulated the organisers for continuing the dance format and the customs over the years. 

Heaping praise on the Chidambaram temple and its ancient architectural design, he urged the need to conserve and preserve the temple in its original form. 

Earlier in the day, the Governor was received with ceremonial temple honours by the Dharmapuram Adheenam junior pontiff Masillamani Desika  Paramacharya Swamigal and temple priest Ganesa Gurukkal.
