Hyderabad: Congress leader S. Jaipal Reddy said the Kalwakurthy lift irrigation scheme in undivided Mahbubnagar district was the brainchild of the Congress government and work had started on it in 1981, before Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had become an MLA.

He told mediapersons at the Gandhi Bhavan that the TRS government had not completed the 10 per cent work that was pending even after three-and- half years but was claiming credit for the scheme.

He said irrigation minister T. Harish Rao has released Krishna waters to various canals under the project, but the water did not reach any field due to non-completion of field channels and distributor network. He objected to the Chief Minister and ministers frequently appealing to Congress leaders not to go to courts against irrigation projects. “How can they blame the Congress if somebody went to court,”Mr Reddy said.
