Kadapa: Jammalamadugu TD leader and former MLC Narayana Reddy is all set to join the Telugu Desam. Reddy said he and his son Bhupesh Reddy will join the TD in Vijayawada on October 20 in the presence of party chief Chandrababu Naidu.

Narayana Reddy is the brother of former minister and BJP leader Adinarayana Reddy. Addressing the media, Reddy claimed that the TDP would regain its “glorious days” in Jammalamadugu constituency. He had  met Chandrababu Naidu last month. Later, he spoke to other TDP leaders and activists in the constituency and won their support, he said.

Reddy said he wanted to hold a meeting and discuss his plans for the TDP with everyone, but could not do so because of the Covid-linked restrictions. However, he personally phoned everyone. “After we join the TDP, my son Bhupesh Reddy will be declared the party in-charge for Jammalamadugu constituency. I have urged all leaders and activists to support my son in the next general elections in 2024.”

Narayana Reddy criticised the state government's free housing programme and urged the government to increase the space allotted for construction of houses from 2.5 to 3 cents. He also sought an increase in the amount given for construction of a house from Rs 1.8 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh.

“The government has already acquired 35,000 acres of government land from Jammalamadugu constituency for a steel plant and solar power units, but there still is a lot more of the unused government land. Give about three cents to each of the beneficiaries for the construction of houses,” he said.
