Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s principles and clean image in public life attracted me the most, says Kollywood’s popular music composer and BJP’s star candidate for R. K. Nagar Assembly constituency Gangai Amaran.

He claimed that TN needed a strong leadership who can propel the state onto the development path, and Modi’s BJP fitted the role perfectly. Mr. Gangai Amaran on whom the saffron party is betting high to enter the Assembly, says he was proud of joining the BJP (in 2014) which has several clean and good leaders. Turning to the present political situation, he said on Saturday that people of Tamil Nadu are in a “confused state” post late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, and that the results of the by-poll “will clear all the confusion.”

“I hail from an ordinary poor agriculture family. I believe that if anything good can be done for the people, it could be only through for the BJP,” he said. Later, Amaran participated in the BJP workers’ meet chaired by Union minister of state for road transport, highways and shipping Pon Radhakrishnan, in the constituency.

Not change of rule but people’s support:  The by-election is not for change of guard at the helm of affairs but will demonstrate the people’s support the party, BJP MP L. Ganesan said. “We will come to know the real strength of political parties through the R K. Nagar bypoll. It is not an election for change of rule but an occasion to know whom the people support,” he said.
