Popularise Amma youth sports scheme: K A Sengottaiyan
The minister directed sports department officials to work in coordination with the district administration.
CHENNAI: Minister for school education, youth welfare and sports development K. A Sengottaiyan has appealed all stakeholders to popularise the Amma youth sports scheme in the state.
Addressing a meeting attended by district sports officers and other officials in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Thursday he said the government allotted Rs 64.35 crore for the project with an objective of promoting sports among the youths in rural areas. The scheme would be implemented in all 12,524 village panchayats and over 500 town panchayats.
He appealed the sports department officials to render support to the programme.
Adequate training will be imparted to the sports persons. Competitions will be held at panchayat union, district and state-levels, and prizes will be given. The minister directed sports department officials to work in coordination with the district administration.
Sengottaiyan said the government has set up a 25-member expert committee to recommend measures to promote and develop sports in the state. The government will act based on the advice of the expert committee. A large number of officials from youth welfare and sports development attended the meeting.
