Bengaluru: The Congress was caught on the wrong foot after Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa announced his decision to hand over the telephone tapping case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Soon after the announcement, the KPCC put out a tweet slamming Mr Yediyurappa for becoming the CM through the back door and compared him to an underworld don. This tweet was deleted when former CM and CLP leader Siddaramaiah tweeted welcoming the government's decision. He wanted a fair probe into the case to punsh the guilty.

Congress leaders were baffled over their leader's decision and they too started welcoming the CBI probe. Subsequently, Mr Siddaramaiah put out another tweet  urging Mr Yediyurappa to order an investigation into the alleged 'Operation Lotus’ that resulted in the fall of the Congress-JD(S) coalition government.

Former home minister and Congress MLA Ramalinga Reddy urged the union government to also probe the tapping of his telephone  when he was home minister to find out on whose instructions it was done. The previous BJP led NDA government did not bother to respond to his official letter seeking an inquiry into the tapping of his phone, he claimed.
