Congress leaders see hope in Gujarat results
Rahul Gandhi managed to bag ethical victory over Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the state elections.
Khammam: The rank and file of Congress view the Gujarat Assembly results declared on Monday as a positive sign for their party for the forthcoming 2019 general elections. They believe that the new AICC president Rahul Gandhi managed to bag ethical victory over Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the state elections even while taking over the new responsibility. DCC president A. Satyam expressed his concern over charges of tampering with the electronic voting machines during the election.
"This apprehension became stronger after watching the results of Rajkot, Surat and Central Gujarat. I had my personal doubt on EVMs tampering in the area because almost all seats there have gone to the BJP. The recounting at a constituency in Surat area, I believe, has proved my doubt right. The Congress candidate asked for recounting when BJP candidate won there with 450 votes majority. The officials declared the BJP candidate victory with 6,000 vote majority after recounting. How could that be possible?" he wondered.
Further, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier come down by making cheap statements such as supari for killing him with the help of Pakistan and misusing the mechanism of the government. The Congress cadre were surcharged since the taking over of the party affairs by Rahul Gandhi. Congress corporator in Khammam Municipal Corporation Vaddeboina Narasimha Rao said that the Congress fared well in rural Gujarat. "The muscle and money power caused for the simple majority to the BJP," he said. The party leaders predicted that Congress had a good pitch in 2019 elections in Telangana and elsewhere.
