HYDERABAD: Stating that the BJP is dividing opposition parties to protect its vote bank, AICC general secretary Tariq Anwar stated on Friday that there cannot be an alternative to the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre without the support of Congress party.

Anwar’s comments come a day after Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s massive BRS public meeting at Khammam in which three Chief Ministers attended in an attempt to give a signal that they would form a third front to take on the BJP in the next general elections.

"When Telangana was formed, the state had `10,000 crore as surplus funds. However, in its eight-year rule, the BRS government has borrowed a whopping `five lakh crore ‘towards the state’s development’. BRS leadership has looted Telangana of its resources and cheated the people," Anwar alleged.

Responding to the internal disputes within the state Congress, he said that democracy was vibrant in the party and all leaders expressed their opinion. Irrespective of individual opinions, there is a cohesive approach and every leader strives to strengthen the Congress party.

Anwar said that the BJP can be defeated only with the support of Congress, which has a huge cadre across the country. The BRS party is trying to weaken the Congress party in the country so as to benefit BJP, he said.

"There will be no alliance with the MIM, which is BJP ‘B' party. While BJP is dividing the opposition parties, Congress remains the only party trying to unite all opposition parties so that BJP can be ousted from power," the AICC leader said.
