Kannur: North Zone DGP Rajesh Dewan, who held a press conference here on Monday said that the two men arrested in the murder of Youth Congress leader Shuhaib, Akash Thillankery and Rithin Raj, were directly involved in the killing and both of them were CPM workers. “Anyone, including the CPM state secretary can claim that they are not CPM men, but it is the duty of the police to prove them wrong. They were nabbed and did not surrender, as a few media outlets reported,” said the DGP.

At a press conference here on Monday, he said “We have raided 55 spots. Fifteen people have been taken into custody, 50 houses have been raided. We are particular that no innocent person should be nabbed. There is no pressure from any political party till now on the investigation and the police was on the right track,”

The DGP said that the police was zeroing in on the possibility of a conspiracy behind the murder. He dismissed the allegations that the hands of the police were tied and there were leakage of information from the force itself. “I came here for this meeting because false information was being published in the media and I want to make sure that the morale of my officers are not affected with the rumours,” the DGP said. He also dismissed the role of convicts who came out in parole in the TP murder case.
