Camaraderie buoys up T N Seema's poll circuit
There was no slogan shouting which is normally seen in such Left meetings.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As little Prarthana’s song “Pon arrival ambiliyil’’ blared from loudspeakers, all eyes turned towards SVS Library Vatiryoorkavu the venue of a get together in support of LDF candidate T N Seema. The candidate’s arrival got delayed by over one hour but that didn't matter much to the small gathering which was immersed in the “revolutionary songs” of the past.
"Marikkan njangalkku manasilla, ambili ammava all came one after the other as people enjoyed her rendition. “Her voice suits communist songs well,” said Vijayan a tea shop worker. Soon after the six year old singer left, the candidate arrived at the venue. There was no slogan shouting which is normally seen in such Left meetings. Comrades justified the silent reception saying it was get together organised by her University college former colleagues and teachers.
The LDF candidate chose to speak on her university college days and surprisingly skipped current political issues and why people should vote for CPM. Instead she spoke about how she came closer to the party through Mahila Sanghaom.
And when Seema talked about the support given by family, her husband Jayaraj was seen making a video of the event on his cell phone. Seema said she was elated to meet many of her students during the campaign. Apart from her students and colleagues, cine play back singer Rajalakshmi also turned up at the venue. “Rajalakshmi wanted to accompany me during house to house visit.
But I aked her to come here so that more peple could see her, hear her,” she said. The CPM candidate is pitted against formidable opponents sitting MLA K Muraleedharan of Congress and BJP state chief Kummanam Rajeshekharan. Clearly the maiden electoral battle for Seema is going to be a tough one.
