KALPETTA: The victory of C.K. Saseendran in Kalpetta is a morale booster for the CPM, which has been leading a land-grab agitation of tribals for the last many years. Though Mr Saseendran was the architect of the agitation, it failed to resolve the issue entirely.

Interestingly, Adivasi Kshema Samithi, the tribal arm of CPM, had launched an agitation in the land of M.V. Shreyams Kumar earlier claiming that it was assigned for distributing among landless tribals.

Mr Saseendran was leading the agitation but they had to retreat after the intervention of High Court. The victory of the man who sells milk for a living while heading the most powerful party in Wayanad as its district secretary has been viewed as a recognition for the simple life he was leading.

His wife works as a part-time employee at a bank. He said his victory was the victory of people. “I would do my level best to address the needs of people across party affiliations,” he told DC. The campaign by some extremist elements in Muslim pockets against publishing derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammed in Mathrubhumi coupled with his clean image ensured the defeat of Mr Kumar, who has the rare feat of winning the constituency for both UDF and LDF.
