Tamil Nadu polls: Textile hub gifts 6 of 8 seats to CM

The AIADMK candidates were leading in all the eight constituencies since first round of vote counting.

TIRUPUR: The AIADMK alliance held its strong presence again this Assembly election too in Tirupur district by winning six out of the eight constituencies in the district

The AIADMK candidates were leading in all the eight constituencies since first round of vote counting. However, in the afternoon, the result changed two constituencies in Dharapuram and Madathukulam later.

The AIADMK candidate for Tirupur North, K.N. Vijaykumar defeated his nearest DMK candidate and former highways minister, M.P. Saminathan with a margin of 37,774 votes.

Similarly, S. Gunasekaran, deputy mayor of Tirupur corporation from AIADMK, won the Tirupur South with a margin of 15,933 votes, defeating DMK candidate and former Mayor K Selvaraj.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker and AIADMK candidate, P Dhanabal, who contested in Avinashi, won the seat against E. Anandhan of DMK by a margin 31,674 votes.The Kangayam seat was captured by Kongu outfit chief U. Thaniyarasu with the help AIADMK alliance. He defeated Congress candidate P. Gobi, who contested in alliance with DMK, by a margin of 13,135 votes.

In Dharapuram, the AIADMK candidate K Ponnusamy suffered a defeat at the hands of the Congress nominee V S Kalimuthu by a margin of 10,017 votes.
Meanwhile, the AIADMK candidate and Arasu Cable Television Corporation chief Udumalai K Radhakrishnan won Udumalpet against M K Muthu of DMK by the margin of 5,687 votes.

Palladam again turned out to be in AIADMK’s favour, with its nominee A Natarajan beating the DMK candidate S Krishnamoorthy by a margin of 32,174 votes.

However, Madathukulam turned out to be a tug of war between AIADMK candidate K Manokaran and DMK candidate R Jayaramkrishnan with a slender margin until the latter defeated the AIADMK nominee by a margin of 1,667 votes after the 17th round of counting. EOM.
