Kozhikode: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has criticised the police for failing to prevent the violence in the district. He alleged that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who holds the home portfolio had  no control over the police who were fighting against each other. “There is mystery behind the attacks against the party offices. The police are  yet to track the real culprits behind the attack on the CPM district committee office.  The attacks on party offices cannot be tolerated in a democracy,” he said while inaugurating an evening yathra against the violence.

Former chief minister Oommen Chandy, who inaugurated the  concluding session of the walk,  said that the government was playing politics when the land was  gripped with fever. “The state has recorded  fever deaths like never before. Still they are putting the blame on the former government,” he said. The Kozhikode DCC organised the yathra to spread the message of peace. DCC chief T. Siddque said that the BJP and the CPM should end the violence.
