Hyderabad: The AIMIM on Wednesday strongly opposed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal for One-Nation-One-Poll as it claimed such a step would destroy Constitutional and democratic rights of regions and said it would violate the basic structure of the Constitution.

According to MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, “Article 1 of the Constitution calls India a ‘Union of States’ recognising its diversity and pluralism.”

The contention of the Central government is that One-Nation One-Election will solve the problem of Model Code of Conduct. But the MCC does not prohibit developmental or routine nature of works, the AIMIM president pointed out.
