HYDERABAD: Irked at the manner their pleas were being overlooked by the authorities for a long while now, lorry owners and drivers have decided on a novel protest to send across their message loud and clear. They will contest the ensuing by-elections for the Munugode Assembly seat in order to bring their grievances to the spotlight.

Manchireddy Rajender Reddy, president of Telangana Lorry Owners Association (TLOA) said that they will field 101 candidates, including owners and drivers. He said that the union commands a strength of 10, 000 families.
Reddy said that the sufferings they have been bearing for the past two and half years are being ignored by political leaders of every hue. None of them has addressed our problems and there has been no relief whatsoever from the government, he said.

The only way we can awaken them from their slumber is to show our strength during elections and Munugode presents the best immediate opportunity, he said.
