THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP on Friday demanded a special investigating team to probe the recent murder of party worker in Kannur. The demand was raised by a delegation comprising BJP MLA O Rajagopal and state president Kummanam Rajashekharan during their meeting with chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan earlier in the day. The BJP leaders sought personal intervention of the chief minister to put an end to violence in Kannur particularly in his own constituency Dharmadom.

Kummanam said the chief minister assured to look into the issues raised by the delegation. He said impartial officers were needed to bring the actual culprits behind the murder to book. The BJP will organise a state-wide agitation on January 23 against the CPM violence.  Members of the Mahila Morcha will take out marches to the district headquarters and cultural leaders will also lodge protest.

Kummanam accused the government of failing to ensure the safety of people in Kannur district. Since the LDF government came to power, there have been series of attacks on women and Dalits across the state, he said. The BJP leader alleged that the police was totally inactive in Kannur district. Wherever the police was discharging their duties effectively, the CPM was targeting them which was evident from the attack on Ponku-nnum police station. He said such attacks were aimed at breaking the morale of police personnel. The party is trying to rein in the police force in the state.

BJP leader accused the police of hounding his party worker and RSS activist. On January 18 the police was informed about the hacking of BJP worker Ranjith. Had the administration taken adequate steps the violence that followed which led to the death of a party worker, could have been avoided. Instead of catching the culprits, the police had raided the houses of BJP workers. Situation has come to such a pass in the state that the houses of party workers are being burnt. In Palakkad the wife and brother of a party worker succumbed to the injuries. RSS prantha karyavahak P Gopalankutty Master and BJP state secretary V V Rajesh were also part of the delegation.
