Ballari: Hundreds of activists of Dalit, farmer, labour and women organisations tried to barge into the Government Inspection Bunglow where Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde was staying on Saturday to protest against his remarks on changing the Constitution and mocking secularists.
Ballari Member of Parliament, B Sriramulu tried to pacify the agitating activists without much success and the police had to finally intervene to control the situation.
They detained several activists even as they tried to surround the Minister’ s car and rigorously raised slogans against him, the BJP, RSS and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
But an unrelenting Mr Hegde reportedly hit out at the activists after inaugurating a job fair later, saying, "We are adamant people. We don’t care about dogs barking on the streets. We have come to bring in change and realise the dreams of the Prime Minister."
But news of the Minister allegedly calling the activists “barking dogs on the street" set of fresh trouble as hundreds of Dalits again emerged on the streets carrying black flags near a private hotel where he was scheduled to address a business meet, forcing the police to resort to a mild lathicharge to disperse them.
