Bengaluru: Veteran Congress leader and former minister, Shamanuru Shivashankarappa said on Wednesday that while neither he nor his son had  sought a ticket for Davangere, he would contest from it if  the party high command offered it to him these Lok Sabha polls.

Speaking to reporters here, he said “If the party gives the ticket to someone else,  my son and I will work for him. But if I get the ticket, I will contest the election. It is left to the party high command to decide.” Either way, he would work for the party candidate and ensure that he won by at least 50,000 votes from his Davangere South Assembly constituency, he asserted.

While Mr Shivashankarappa’s son, S. S Mallikarjuna is said to be keen on contesting the Lok Sabha elections, former minister H.M. Revanna too is hoping to contest from Davangere constituency. Speaking in Chennagriri after being felicitated by the Kuruba community, he said if asked to contest by the party, he saw no reason not to.
