Rs 12.6 crore cash seized in AP, Rs 11.2 crore in Telangana
Apart from the state police, the income-tax department has deployed three officials at the RGIA to keep a check on the flow of money.
Hyderabad: Since the election code has come into effect, the police have seized Rs 23.8 crore in unaccounted money. Of this, Rs 12.60 crore were seized in Andhra Pradesh and Rs 11.2 crores were seized in Telangana.
Apart from the state police, the income-tax department has deployed three officials at the RGIA to keep a check on the flow of money.
However, no major cash catch has been reported so far. The cash has been handed over to the income-tax department to investigate the source.
The state police nodal officer Jitender, additional DIG — law and order, Telangana Police, explained, “`11.2 crore in cash has been seized in Telangana. This apart, the police is taking care to not disrupt the daily course of life and business in the state. Seizures will be made only if the source and the carrier seem suspicious.”
With respect to political parties campaigning in full swing, he added, “MCC violations, such as using loudspeakers after 10 pm, and taking out rallies without permission, will be dealt with according to the law.”
The department of excise and prohibition has deployed 340 mobile teams and 14 mobile patrols at 19 checkpoints to tighten the flow of liquor into the state.
