Sreesanth to remain in politics
The BJP is happy that Sreesanth put up a good fight.
Kochi: Cricketer Sreesanth, who lost the elections in Thiruvananthapuram, has no plan to abandon politics and play his usual game. Though disappointed by the outcome, he is waiting for the BJP leadership’s word to chalk out his future course of action.
He told DC that he was let down by the coastal areas. “It is sad to see the plight of the coastal people hit by sea erosion and tidal attacks. If they had voted us to power, the Narendra Modi government would have pumped in more than Rs 100 crore for development in the coastal areas. I hope that the successful candidates would help these people,” said Sreesanth.
In the tight fight in Thiruvananthapuram, Sreesanth finished third behind LDF’s Antony Raju with a difference of 805 votes. Sreesanth scored 34, 764 votes and during the initial round of counting, he had come second. While Congress candidate V. S. Sivakumar came up trumps with 46,474 votes, Antony Raju came second with 35, 569 votes.
Antony Raju was way behind during the initial phase of counting. The BJP supporters who had gathered at Mararji Bhavan had roared with delight every time the TV screen showed Sreesanth coming behind Sivakumar. Sreesanth was watching the counting from state BJP president Kummanam Rajasekharan’s office room. The BJP is happy that Sreesanth put up a good fight.
