Alliance row: Bosses ease stand on Bengal
Stop short of seeking action against Bengal comrades for Congress pact
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala unit of the CPM which had vehemently opposed any electoral tie-up with the Congress in West Bengal right from the beginning, toned down its position and stopped short of seeking action against their Bengal counterparts for violating the party line.
The central committee members from Kerala even while severely criticising the Bengal unit, acknowledged the fact that the party was under attack in Mamata Banerjee ruled state and their comrades were getting killed by TMC goons. According to Jagmati Sangwan who was expelled from the party on the Bengal issue earlier in the day, the Kerala comrades had placed their views in the central committee on Sunday.
Most members who took part in the debate and discussions from Kerala had criticised the Bengal unit for violating the political tactical line adopted at the Vishakhapatnam party Congress which had opposed any electoral understanding with the Congress.
But when the leadership came out with the resolution terming the Bengal decision as “not in consonance” with the political tactical line, the Kerala comrades neither opposed it nor asked the central leadership to term it as “violation.”
The Kerala members softened their position as terming Bengal decision as “violation” could have forced the CC to take disciplinary action against those responsible for the electoral understanding with Congress. Such a tough decision could have even led to a split in the party considering the fact that majority of the state committee members in West Bengal and majority of the district committees had backed the tie up with Congress.
The massive victory of LDF was also one of the reasons for the Kerala comrades to soften their stand. “Had the results in Kerala been adverse, the state unit would have certainly attributed the electoral understanding in Bengal as one of the reasons for their defeat,” said a senior party leader.
