TIRUPATI: The political row surrounding the ‘Volunteers’ has taken a viler personal turn as Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy made mincemeat of Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan at a public meeting on Friday.

Addressing a gathering in Venkatagiri constituency on Friday, Jagan Mohan Reddy branded Pawan Kalyan as a ‘political volunteer’ and a ‘package star’ working for Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu for many years. He said the JS chief has “a history of multiple marriages, divorces and illicit relationships.”

In response to Pawan Kalyan’s allegations against the Volunteers, he asked, “Did our volunteers try to trap girls? In fact, it is Naidu’s volunteer Pawan Kalyan who is into playing such tricks constantly. He lures women. After marrying a woman and living with her for a few years, he divorces her. He marries another woman and then divorces her too. Again, he marries a woman and leaves her.”

“Not only this. While being married to a woman, he develops illicit relations with another woman,” Jagan Mohan Reddy said.

The Chief Minister was also harsh against TD chief Chandrababu Naidu, his brother-in-law and actor N. Balakrishna and Naidu's son Nara Lokesh. "One of them dances with women and is also seen with women in swimming pools. Another kisses or hugs women. The other goes to TV shows and says 'Bava' (brother-in-law), what you did in films, I did in real life", Jagan Mohan Reddy said.

“The people know what kind of characters these three men are,” the CM added.

Defending the volunteer system, the Chief Minister asserted that it was established with the aim of providing selfless service to the people. “But, people with questionable character are passing objectionable comments against volunteers. Only culture-less people would criticise the volunteers who have been extending selfless service to the people with a great sense of responsibility," he stated.

Praising the hard work of the 2.60 lakh volunteers, Jagan Mohan Reddy claimed, “A large number of them are my sisters.”

Jagan Mohan Reddy said they were all well-regarded by the locals and they offered assistance at doorsteps of the people, without any discrimination linked to caste, creed, or politics. He also praised the volunteers for their contributions in effectively implementing the welfare schemes. The JS chief attempted to tarnish their reputation through character assassination, the CM said.

He said, "Pawan has an alliance with the BJP but lives with the TD. He submits B-Form of his party to the EC but, in fact, he heads the B-team of the TD. His talk of an alliance with the BJP is a drama, his associations with Naidu is another drama, and his claim that JS is a completely different party is another big drama.”

The Chief Minister appealed to the people to  choose between his government, which “transparently” implemented the welfare schemes for the weaker sections, and the opposition that “sought political power with a view to looting public funds with the help of the friendly media.”
