Hyderabad: The state Congress will announce the names of its candidates for the Assembly polls a fortnight ahead of the election notification, TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said on Thursday.

Speaking to mediapersons at Gandhi Bhavan, Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said, “We will declare the names of our candidates 15 days before the election notification. We have indications that the Election Commission is in a state of confusion regarding the schedule for the elections. They are confused by the complaints regarding irregularities in the voters list.”

Responding a question on the grand alliance, the TPCC chief said, “Discussions are still continuing with other parties. All of them are clear about the common agenda for the alliance. More meetings are needed on seat sharing.”

He said that reports of alliance partners demanding Congress seats had not come to his notice. “If there are any issues regarding this, we will resolve them with discussions,” he said.

He said aspirants for tickets could apply till Friday. “Two surveys will be conducted on all the applicants and selection will be based on the reports. The applications will be forwarded to the panel on consultations which will scrutinise them. The list will then be handed over to the screening committee.”
