Yogi planning to take over Wakf property, alleges Owaisi
Hyderabad: Describing the survey of Wakf properties being undertaken by the UP government as ‘uncalled for’, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi likened it to NRC (National Register of Citizens) as the data collected may be misused against the community in the future.
Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, Owaisi said that it was ridiculous that instead of empowering Wakf boards, the government was eying these properties.
“In case the properties are under encroachment, the Sunni and Shia Boards should be provided ‘summary eviction powers’. This survey will not change their legal status. Babri masjid was Wakf property but we lost it. I believe that the exercise is indicative that the government wants to take away these lands. Why treat this as enemy property?,” he fumed.
On Karnataka’s plans to introduce Bhagavad Gita in schools, he referred to Article 28 (1&2) of the constitution and cited that government and aided schools are barred from teaching religious instructions. “Gita, Quran and other religious texts are religious, hence it is a constitutional violation,” he said.
