HYDERABAD: Senior Congress leader Shabbir Ali on Monday submitted a memorandum to Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar seeking clarification on whether or not the government had reduced the Muslim quota in jobs and education from four to three per cent.

Speaking to mediapersons, Shabbir Ali said that the Chief Secretary was asked to clarify on the new roster points for direct recruitment, which has created confusion over the actual quota.

Shabbir said, "In view of the increase in STs quota from six to 10 per cent, the state government issued new roster points under Rule 22 and 22A of Telangana State & Subordinate Service Rules 1996. The roster points clearly show that Roster No 19, 44 and 94 have been earmarked for BC-E (Muslims) category. As per law, Roster No. 69 should also be reserved for BC-E to ensure a four per cent quota. When we pointed out the mistake through the media, the government sent a 'rejoinder' through its publicity cell denying any decrease in Muslim quota."
Shabbir Ali demanded that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao take strict action against the official responsible for the confusion.
