Raipur: The ruling Congress and Opposition BJP on Monday claimed victory in the just-concluded two-phase assembly elections in Chhattisgarh.

While Congress claimed to secure more than 75 seats in the 90-member state assembly, BJP said the party would return to power in the state by bagging 52-54 seats.

“BJP is going to win 52-54 seats in the polls. We are forming the government in the state”, former chief minister and BJP national vice-president Dr Raman Singh said.

Mr Singh claimed that a post-poll survey by the party in each assembly constituency in the state has ‘clearly’ indicated that BJP would secure 52-54 seats.

He said the party fought the outgoing assembly polls with collective leadership and the elected legislators of the party would decide who would be the chief minister, if BJP won power.

State Congress president Deepak Baij who contested from Chitrakot (ST) assembly constituency in Bastar in the state however claimed that his party would retain power by bagging more than 75 seats.

“We are going to win 75 plus seats”, he said.

Congress had routed BJP in the 2018 assembly to storm to power in the state after a gap of 15 years by securing 68 out of 90 seats.

Chhattisgarh went to the two-phase assembly elections on November seven and November 17.

While polls were held in the 20 seats in the first phase of polling, the remaining 70 seats went to polls on November 17.
