Its alliance parties barring the Puthiya Thamizhagam expressed support to the DMK agitations.
Chennai: The principal opposition party DMK is all set for hunger protests throughout the state against the conduct of Speaker P. Dhanapal who ordered eviction of DMK MLAs en masse and proceeded to conduct the confidence motion moved by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisami, ignoring the demand for secret voting.
Its alliance parties barring the Puthiya Thamizhagam expressed support to the DMK agitations. TNCC leader S. Thirunavukkarasar announced that Congress leaders would take part in the agitations throughout the state, but silent on his participation.
The Congress leader also welcomed the closure of 500 Tasmac shops, but demanded total prohibition in the state. IUML leader Khader Moideen, and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi leader M.H. Jawahirullah also extended support to DMK agitations against the attack on leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin, who will take part in the protests in Tiruchy. Principal secretary K. Duraimurugan will lead the fast in Kanchipuram. In Chennai, the fast will be held in two places under the leadership of district secretaries Ma. Subramaniam, P.K. Sekarbabu. In Tiruvallur, the fast will be led by district secretary Nazar and Kanchipuram district secretary T.M. Anbarasan will take part in Maraimalai Nagar.
The turnout for the protests and the vigour of cadres could be an indication of support for the party’s allegations against the conduct of the Speaker and the opposition to the new government under Palanisami.
