Visakhapatnam: Fisheries minister Dr. Seedari Appala Raju accused TD leadership of wantonly creating trouble in Gannavaram to divert attention from justice Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has done to BCs while selecting MLC candidates for the ensuing 18 MLC seats that are falling vacant.

Addressing a press conference at the YSRC party office in Srikakulam on Tuesday, the minister said: “The CM has carried out social engineering that has brought in equality within society. BCs getting such space is a historic moment,” Appala Raju declared.

He charged TD leader N. Chandrababu Naidu of often offending backward classes. He maintained that Naidu had strongly opposed introduction of English medium in state schools, which benefitted students belonging to lower groups of society.

Regarding selection of MLC candidates and total existing legislators, the minister Appala Raju pointed out that 30 of total 44 MLCs are BCs, which is more than 68 percent representation. “This had been only 37 percent during Chandrababu’s tenure,” he underlined, saying Naidu continues to discriminate against BCs even while in opposition.

The minister went on to allege that the TD chief had earlier written about BCs not being competent to become judges and had threatened to cut Nai Brahmins to size. He accused Naidu of selling posts and forecast that next general elections in AP will be a fight between the rich and poor.
