Thiruvananthapuram: CPM politburo member Pinaryi Vijayan on Thursday said the state should be able to utilise the enthusiasm and energy of youth for develoment in various sectors. He was addressing a well attended meeting of youths in the district as part of the LDF election campaign.

"Our young people are bright, intelligent and innovative. However, they have not been able to use their talent to its full potential because of the lack of opportunities in the sate. This situation needs to be changed to facilitate better opportunities for the highly talented and qualified youth to ensure that they become part of the development  process and contribute immensely to state’s growth,” he said.

He said one third of the people who were performing exceedingly well in their respective fields are highly talented and qualified youths from Kerala. Most of them are living as non resident Keralities as they have been forced to leave their home state in search of greener pastures.

One of the major reasons for their departure from Kerala is that the youths are not getting jobs commensurate with their qualification and achievements. “The youth in the state are facing a major crisis because of huge unemployment,” he added.

Pinarayi said the LDF manifesto had promised that the Left government came to power it would create 25 lakh jobs in five years. “Our promise is not unrealistic. We have made the promise on the basis of our conviction and commitment. We are committed to making the announcement a reality for betterment of our youth,” he added. The CPM leader campaigned for actor Mukesh and other candidates in the district. He will be leading the LDF campaign in Pathanamthita on Friday.
