Chennai roads spruced up ahead of Jayalalithaa's swearing in
As the swearing-in ceremony is to be attended by prominent personalities, the University has been put under surveillance.
Chennai: Ahead of AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa’s swearing-in ceremony on Monday, Greater Chennai Corporation is sprucing up the city roads and stepping up security.
Preparations are underway at Madras University as the walls are repainted and roads are being renovated. Storm water drains in arterial roads including Rajaji Salai, R.K. Salai, Walajah road and Gandhi Mandapam Road are being repaired post the showers in the city. Battered roads in the city are being identified and renovation work is being undertaken, a corporation official said. “Important works like repairing footpaths and clearing blockages in drains are underway,” said the official.
As the swearing-in ceremony is to be attended by prominent personalities, the University has been put under surveillance, said a senior police personnel.
