Dalit meal': Mallikarjun Kharge eats away at BS Yeddyurappa

Bengaluru: BJP state president B.S. Yeddyurappa might have had his meal at a Dalit’s house in Tumakuru on Friday and surely digested it too but the controversy continues to dog him. Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge took potshots at the former CM saying the shameful incident exposed the BJP for its fondness for the varna system even in a modern age.
Speaking to reporters, Kharge said, “Yeddyurappa’s act of ordering hotel food to eat at a Dalit’s home, goes against the philosophy of saint-reformer Basaveshwara, who dreamt of a casteless society. The BJP’s claim about being torch bearers of Hindu unity is so shallow that their own leader does not consider Dalits as Hindus,” he criticised.
No less critical was another Dalit leader and KPCC president, Dr G. Parameshwar, who alleged that Yeddyurappa as CM, had ordered the removal of Dalit icon Babasaheb Ambedkar’s portraits from his cabin.
