Hyderabad: Ashok Gehlot plans two-day visit to revamp TPCC
Sources said that before finalising the lists the AICC wants to know the opinion of party leaders on the constitution of the committees.
Hyderabad: AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot, who is in-charge of party organisation affairs, will be visiting the city for two days to set right issues cropping up in the party’s state unit.
The AICC has to appoint new executive committee and the election committee to shortlist party candidates for the 2019 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. It has also to appoint committees plan for the election campaign, draft the manifesto and for coordination, apart from several committees at the ground level.
In recent days, several senior leaders have openly announced that they are in the race for the Chief Minister’s post if the Congress comes to power in the state in 2019.
This has raised a controversy in party circles, and some senior leaders are of the opinion that this could give a bad impression to voters and affect the party’s future.
TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy during his recent visit to Delhi had submitted lists proposing names of the executive committee and several other bodies to AICC president Rahul Gandhi’s office and to Mr Gehlot.
Sources said that before finalising the lists the AICC wants to know the opinion of party leaders on the constitution of the committees. Mr Gehlot has been tasked with this operation.
He is expected to advise party senior leaders to put in a combined effort to bring the party to power at the Centre and in the state without getting into controversies.
