Mysuru: Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy said his party would contest forthcoming Assembly bypolls on its own and win at least eight seats, and the outcome of bypolls would change the political scene in Karnataka.
Addressing party workers at a rally here on Saturday, he said: “If the Congress and JD (S) win more seats, the BJP government will collapse by October 24. We entered into an alliance to form the government last year following a request from senior Congress leaders.”
JD (S) MLAs Sa Ra Mahesh, Mahadev, Ashwin Kumar participated in the meeting.
However, Chamundeshwari constituency MLA and former minister G.T. Devegowda stayed away from the meeting.
Speaking to the media, he targeted Mr Kumaraswamy saying, “After JD(S) lost in parliamentary elections, Mr Kumaraswamy could have stepped down and allowed a Congress member to take over as CM, with H.D. Revanna as DyCM to save the coalition government. Mr H.D. Deve Gowda wanted to play a vital role at national level but they got him defeated him in Tumakuru.”
